INSTALLATION (5 steps -- please follow in order)
------------------------------------------------

1. BEFORE EXTRACTING the downloaded ZIP file:
      RIGHT-CLICK the ZIP   ->   Properties
      At the bottom of the General tab, check "Unblock"
      Click OK.

   This step is REQUIRED on Windows 10/11. It tells Windows
   the file is safe and prevents Smart App Control from blocking
   the launcher.

2. EXTRACT the ZIP to a permanent location.
      Recommended:  C:\BillKaro

   For best results, use 7-Zip (https://www.7-zip.org) -- the
   built-in Windows extractor sometimes copies the "blocked"
   flag onto every file inside, even after step 1.

3. (OPTIONAL but recommended) Double-click
      Install-Shortcuts.bat
   inside the extracted BillKaro folder. It creates a desktop
   shortcut and a Start Menu entry. No admin rights needed.

4. Double-click  BillKaro.exe  to launch the app.

5. On the very first launch, BillKaro will show you the
   End-User License Agreement and ask for your consent to
   each optional data-sharing feature. Read it and choose
   what you want to allow.


FIRST-RUN LOGIN
---------------

   Username:  admin
   Password:  admin123

Please change this password immediately from
   Admin Panel  ->  Users
after first login.


WHERE IS MY DATA STORED?
------------------------

BillKaro stores ALL your business data (database, config,
logs) here:

   %APPDATA%\BillKaro\
   (typically C:\Users\<your-name>\AppData\Roaming\BillKaro\)

The program folder is read-only after installation -- it
holds only the app code. This means:

   * You can move the BillKaro folder anywhere; your data
     follows your Windows user account, not the folder.
   * Uninstalling does NOT delete your business data.
   * Backups should target %APPDATA%\BillKaro\billkaro.db
     (or use Admin -> Backup -> Export Database).


UPGRADING TO A NEW VERSION
--------------------------

1. Close BillKaro.
2. Make a quick backup of  %APPDATA%\BillKaro\billkaro.db
   (just in case).
3. Delete the old BillKaro folder.
4. Extract the new version's ZIP to the same location.
5. Re-launch -- your data is preserved.


UNINSTALLING
------------

To remove shortcuts and the app folder:
   Double-click  Uninstall.bat  inside this folder.
   Then delete the BillKaro folder itself.

To ALSO delete your business data (cannot be undone):
   Delete  %APPDATA%\BillKaro\


WHY A PORTABLE BUILD INSTEAD OF AN INSTALLER?
---------------------------------------------

This release ships as a self-contained folder, not a Windows
.msi/.exe installer. Recent Windows builds (Smart App Control)
block unsigned installers; a portable folder is unaffected.
A signed installer is on our roadmap.
